Zero Dark Thirty Only Getting Limited Release In 2012, With 2013 Expansion To Follow

Sony’s upcoming Kathryn Bigelow film Zero Dark Thirty has been on everyone’s radar as a must-see before the year’s end. Bigelow’s war film depicts the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the film stars Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt and a massive list of talent that can be seen in the trailer by clicking here or watching below:

Box Office Mojo just updated us on the film’s release, which puts the December 19th opening as a limited NYC/LA engagement, with a wide release expansion on January 11th, 2013.

This isn’t uncommon for studios to release possible Oscar contenders late in the year in only a select amount of theaters, hoping for the buzz to skyrocket leading into the film’s wide release. I’m a little bummed that I won’t get to see it before the new year, but at least it isn’t getting delayed like so many other studio films as of late.
