UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter received the following statement:
“While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”
Original story below:
Star Wars news is commonplace among the web now, with the hunt for a director to tackle Star Wars: Episode VII being the primary concern. I was extremely worried when I first read the headline featuring director Zack Snyder‘s name and Star Wars, because while he’s a great director the last thing he needs to do is direct Episode VII.
But that’s not going to be the case at all. It looks like he’s planning on doing a Seven Samurai remake in the Star Wars universe. This is exactly the kind of stuff Disney needs to be doing with the property. Give us new (or newish) stories using the giant world already established in the other films.
Snyder doing lightsaber action scenes just might be the coolest thing of the decade, if this all comes out as planned.
There’s still no news on who will be directing Episode VII, but Snyder directing anything Star Wars-related, that isn’t a direct sequel, has the potential to be really freaking good.
What say you?
