Is this latest X-Men film going to be a sequel to the prequel or just a general reboot-equel for the whole damn series? We already got three X-Men films that existed in their own world, with small ties to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film, but then Matthew Vaughn surprised us all with the highly satisfying X-Men: First Class.
I thought First Class was the start of a fresh new direction for the X-Series, but now casting news for X-Men: Days of Future Past continues to tie it back to the original trilogy.
Remember, Vaughn is off of the projector as director, with X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer replacing him. We also already know that Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman will be making appearances.
Now Singer is tweeting about the confirmation of Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore and Anna Paquin joining the gang. If you haven’t been keeping track at home all three of them were present in X-Men: The Last Stand.
Days of Future Past is supposed to follow the comic closely, with Page’s character being a central focus, so I guess it makes sense for her to come back. But I’m just getting X-Confused trying to figure out which characters fit into which film. Prequels, sequels and reboots are just too much for my tiny brain to comprehend. Not to mention I never cared much for the X-Men films aside from First Class and X2.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to open on July 18th, 2014.
