Will Tarantino’s Django be Foxx-y?

As usual, long before a frame of film is shot, Quentin Tarantino has everyone in Hollywood talking.  When his script for Django Unchained leaked a few weeks back, the rumor was that he was pursuing Will Smith for the title role, which threw people into a tizzy.  For the Smith naysayers:  Worry not, it seems he has passed.

Showbiz411.com is reporting that not only has the rumored Leonardo DiCaprio signed on for the villainous Calvin Candie, but Jamie Foxx has become the hot name of the moment as a likely contender to bring Django’s fury to the screen in full force.

As a Tarantino fan, this is great news.  Not only is Smith out, but one of the better actors of our generation might very well be in.  Again, this is all rumor until official announcements are made, but it looks like he’s moving back into classic Tarantino territory.  Really, what was the last movie since Collateral and Ray where Foxx got to trot out his actual acting skills?

Personally, I still think Idris Elba would be a better overall fit, and it would be a star-making role for him, but it seems his tweets were misinterpreted and he might instead be joining The Pacific Rim with Guillermo Del Toro at the helm, which is never a bad thing.

What do you guys think?  Is Jamie Foxx a better fit than Will Smith?  Worse?  Let us know.
