There was one short film that made a big impression at Fantastic Fest. The short is called Cost of Living and it stars Brandon Routh and Bret Harrison. I think it’s awesome that it got a lot of attention at FF because the short is really well made and I can’t wait to see what director BenDavid Grabinski is going to next, besides the sequel of course.
Cost of Living really benefits from being a short. It’s not a spoof film or based on an idea taken from previously established material; it’s simply its own film. Being short allows for everything to feel meaningful and no time to be wasted on smaller things that don’t add up to the big picture. Routh and Harrison are great. Both men show some chemistry and they have no problems making you laugh. It’s rare to connect with characters like these in such a short time.
Sorry about my random blabbering, I just really enjoyed the short. Can’t forget to say thanks to Devin over at Bad Ass Digest for bringing my attention to the film.
