Universal is spending a lot of time and money on their currently established properties. 2015 is shaping up to be another sequel-ridden year, with another Snow White & the Huntsman on the way, plus a fifth installment in the Bourne series, after The Bourne Legacy made some good coin with Jeremy Renner taking over, despite the film being a complete mess.
Now they’ve confirmed two more films. One of which is Pitch Perfect 2, a sequel to the Anna Kendrick-starring successful music comedy, which opened last year to some strong audience reactions as well as critical praise. I have yet to see the film, but I’ve heard nothing but positive things, despite the trailer looking kind of shaky.
They plan on dropping the sequel sometime in 2015.
The other big piece of news is the confirmation of Fast & Furious 7 for next July. Usually the studio waits two years in between Fast films, but now it looks like they don’t plan on stopping until the cash flow slows down. Originally, the seventh film was supposed to be the final installment, but now it looks like they want to milk this racing cash cow for all that it’s worth.
Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin won’t be returning, instead Saw director James Wan will replace him. Here’s Universal’s official blurb on the matter:
Continuing the global exploits in the franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast of FAST & FURIOUS 7, which will be released by Universal Pictures on July 11, 2014. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series, and Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel return as producers.
Vin Diesel has mentioned that the seventh film will be the biggest yet and open the door for more sequels.
Are you excited for any of these sequels?
