It’s no secret that Alfonso Cuaron‘s upcoming sci-fi space epic Gravity is one of my most anticipated movies of the fall. George Clooney and Sandra Bullock starring in a film about two astronauts tethered to each other, after a disastrous explosion causes them to detach from their NASA space shuttle.
Gravity on paper sounds like a terrifying experience and a worst-case-scenario nightmare for any astronaut out there. On film it looks absolutely breathtaking, thanks to Cauron’s always innovative filmmaking styles that continue to push the medium to extraordinary new heights.
The film is already boasting some impressive technical tricks, like some of the longest one-shot takes and impressive use of 3D and general special effects to recreate the feeling of being in space and now it looks like Bullock and Clooney might be giving some of the year’s best performances.
I have no doubts that Gravity will at the very least impress on a visual level and now after witnessing these two trailers I can safely say that it might perhaps be one of the most frightening films of 2013.
Gravity opens on October 4th, 2013.
Check out two brand new trailers below, with a third to follow shortly:
Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
