Harmony Korine has made an interesting career for himself. From his first writing effort Gummo to his last two films Mister Lonely and Trash Humpers, his films have often been considered weird, very anti-commercial, and even offensive to many tastes. His latest film, Spring Breakers is more of a classic narrative film, and James Franco starring as a drug dealer has helped the film gain notoriety, as well as the fact that Korine managed to cast Disney kids Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez in a film about girls on spring break going bad.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to mixed reactions, but as his films have always been divisive, it’s not surprising at all to hear praise and condemnation for the film. We finally have some first looks at footage of the film, including two teasers and a clip of Selena Gomez talking about her unhappiness.
First, the clip:
It shows the basic theme of the film, how these bored girls end up getting themselves in trouble. While many have seen the pictures of James Franco‘s character ‘Alien’ and laughed, we finally get to see this ridiculous character in action, as he shows off his collection of what he thinks is ‘gangster’. Check it out and look at Franco going nuts:
While the film may not be high on my list of films to see, it’s definitely different, and I’ll see it just to watch Franco run wild with this ridiculous character. No word on a release yet, but it’s been picked up for distribution, so I’m sure we’ll hear something soon, as well as see a full length theatrical trailer. What do you think?
