Director Sam Mendes has been Bond preoccupied for the better part of a decade, having delivered to us both Skyfall and Spectre, two 007 films that are so far on the opposite ends of the quality spectrum.
Now, he’s returning to war with a WWI epic titled 1917 and I must admit, this thing looks like a work of art. The sprawling and horrifying acts of war, captured beautifully through Mendes’ ability as a visual director.
I love the dark shots in the tunnel, with the light organically moving the camera forward as we get a glimpse of the men-on-a-mission story that feels familiar, but captivates on a thematic level.
I can’t wait to see this one. How about you?
