Finally, a trailer for Martin Scorsese‘s family adventure Hugo, in 3D!
I’ve kind of been waiting for this trailer to make its way online for a few reasons. One, because I wanted to see what a family friendly Scorsese film would look like and two because I wanted to see what Scorsese could do with 3D. I’ve always thought 3D would work the best in the hands of real artists, directors that could actually implement it without doing those stupid shots of things flying at you and without just trying to make a cheap buck.
Director Martin Scorsese is the perfect man for the job when it comes to 3D. He’s known for making classic films that tell great stories and usually have a nice sense of visuals. Last years Shutter Island had really nice cinematography, that shined both in theaters and on Blu-ray.
I will admit that after watching the first trailer for Hugo I feel a bit underwhelmed. Not because it is a family film, but because it just looks too silly. I was hoping Scorsese could make a kids movie that is also engaging for adults, sort of like what Steven Spielberg is doing with The Adventures of Tintin, but Hugo just doesn’t work for me, or at least this first trailer doesn’t. I’m thinking that maybe this trailer is best viewed on a big screen and in 3D, so that you can get a taste for the atmosphere a bit more.
Hugo stars Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Jude Law, Ray Winstone and Christopher Lee. It will be released on November 23rd, 2011 in 3D.
