Director Gus Van Sant hasn’t been hogging much of the spotlight lately, with his past few films going mostly unnoticed. That’s not to knock on the incredibly talented filmmaker, but only an observation that is soon to change with the release of his latest film Promised Land. The first trailer has landed and it stars Matt Damon, John Krasinski and Frances McDormand.
It starts out like most big corporations taking over little town dramas, with Damon and McDormand’s characters pitching their positivity, only to be shot down by the opposed, played here by Krasinski.
The trailer stumbles around trying to find a proper tone, with part of the film feeling a lot like a light family drama and the other revealing itself as maybe something more personal. I’m getting mixed signals on my end, but that’s probably because I’m still trying to shake off Matt Damon‘s smile from We Bought a Zoo.
Promised Land opens in theaters on December 28th, 2012.
