I have a soft spot in my heart for Joe Dante‘s Gremlins and I’m never going to apologize for that. It’s such a fun little movie that I don’t mind revisiting again and again and I think part of that reason is because Joe Dante knows how to make creepy horror films that aren’t full of just blood and gore. Small Soldiers is another example of an awesome flick that rocked my younger years and Dante was responsible for that one too.
The Hole is his latest feature and while this first trailer doesn’t make it look nearly as fun as the two previously mentioned films, I can say that the film reminds me of a cheesy episode of Goosebumps. I kind of liked that show too (don’t hate me?) and if watching The Hole means simply reliving childhood memories then I’m all for it.
I’m not expecting anything good, but I am expecting a teen-friendly horror film that could scare on the surface, but mostly end up being a distraction from the everyday gorefests we’ve had to sit through in modern horror.
The Hole opens on September 28th, 2012.
