George Clooney returns to the director’s chair for The Ides of March, a new political drama starring himself, Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood.
The film boasts a very impressive cast and an interesting plot, to say the least. I liked Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck, but I never bothered with Leatherheads. The new film obviously looks like it’s following the first in terms of tone. I’m all for adult thrillers and no one does it better than Clooney. He starred in but didn’t direct Michael Clayton, which looked really dry on paper but managed to be very intense.
I have complete faith in Clooney and I’m starting to have more faith in Ryan Gosling, who stars in the romantic comedy, Crazy, Stupid, Love and the more serious Drive, which comes out later this year. I think The Ides of March will be a perfect movie for Gosling to follow up Drive with. It really shows his range as an actor, more importantly a serious actor!
The Ides of March opens on October 7th, 2011. Check out the trailer, followed by a synopsis below, thanks to The Film Stage.
The Ides of March takes place during the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, when an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.
