I don’t know how many more found-footage films I can honestly take. Paranormal Activity just had to go and re-open the floodgates, causing studios to shoot out new found-footage films like bullets from a gun.
What makes this newest film, Lovely Molly, something we can’t completely write off is the fact that it’s directed by Eduardo Sánchez, co-creator of The Blair Witch Project. It’s only fitting that the person who helped start the found-footage craze revisits it for another go.
The only problem is Lovely Molly doesn’t look the least bit innovative. It looks like everything that’s come before it, with another troubled soul that’s either having a mental breakdown or suffering from posession. I’ve heard mixed things about the film and the trailer isn’t persuading me into having high hopes for the film.
Lovely Molly stars Gretchen Lodge, Alexandra Holden and Johnny Lewis. It will be released on May 18th, 2012.
