The Wrap is reporting that director and producer Tony Scott, the brother of producer/director Ridley Scott, has been reported dead by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Scott’s publicist later confirmed this, providing no further details. The U.S. Coast Guard has told The Daily Breeze that a suicide note was found in Scott’s car, other reports say there was one in his office. He left his car on one of the eastbound lanes of the Vincent Thomas Bride near Long Beach, CA.
Reports say that Scott climbed a fence and leapt off the bridge, “without hesitation” say officials. The director’s death comes as a shock to most, leaving a litany of films behind like Top Gun, The Hunger, Days of Thunder, The Last Boyscout, True Romance, Crimson Tide, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3, and Unstoppable. His brother, an arguably even more famous director/producer was gearing up for another Prometheus sequel, which he was to produce with his brother through their company Scott Free Productions.
I’m sure more will come of this tragic story in the coming days, but it goes to show that the pressures of life can get to anyone, even big time Hollywood producers.
