This week is the beginning of a long boring looking month of new releases. Yeah, there are a few releases throughout the month that I’m looking forward to, but not many. The ratio between ones that don’t look like keepers and the ones that look like keepers is pretty bad. Let’s jump right into this weeks new releases.
First off we have Contagion starring Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. In Contagion you follow the worst case scenario of a global viral pandemic. You see the scenarios from many point of views, whether they are from ordinary people or from the doctors who are struggling to keep the viral disease contained.
I haven’t seen Contagion. It didn’t look very interesting to me. However, Jeremy was able to see it and you check out his review here. That being said, if you are looking to pick up Contagion on Blu-ray you will be able to get it as a Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet Digital Copy Combo pack. Another package if you aren’t into the DVD and Digital Copy is just the single Blu-ray disc package.
Shark Night is also hitting the shelves this week. It’s about several friends who go up to their cabin to spend a weekend relaxing and away from reality but they discover it’s going to be a hell of a weekend. They discover that the lake is infested with sharks. Shark Night is being released as a Blu-ray and UV Digital Copy package. You can check out Wilson’s theatrical review of Shark Night here.
If you are into television shows then you might find Justified: The Complete Second Season a must buy this week as it hits the stores. I honestly don’t know much about Justified. It didn’t look that appealing to me when I first saw the commercials for it. Maybe if I were to just sit down and watch it, I’d like it. Who knows.
On to a movie starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. It didn’t really make much wave while in the box office because it was really only out on limited release. I wanted to see The Guard while it was in theaters however I never had the time to go see it. Eventually I will see it. If there was one Blu-ray I had to buy this week it would be this one. The Guard is about two cops who have completely different personalities that are partnered up. One has a subversive sense of humor while the other is a guy with very strict morals.
The Guard is being released by Sony Pictures as a single Blu-ray disc.
Last but not least is a National Geographic documentary about the lions in Africa. The Last Lions depicts how about 50 years ago there were roughly half a million lions in Africa and now there are only 20,000. You watch as they point out the reasons they are going down and how much the poaching industry brings in each year. The Last Lions is being released by Virgil Films & Entertainment as a single Blu-ray disc.
Well that is the new releases this week. Like I said earlier, it’s going to be a week month. There are a few that are a for sure pick up. However this week is kind of boring.
