It is another week and that brings a long another batch of new releases. This week isn’t necessarily terrible but it is not as good as other weeks. It is still capable of sucking cash out of my wallet. I’m looking at one for sure and possibly two blind buys. For those of you who don’t know what a blind buy is; it is when you buy a movie before you have even seen the movie. One could assume that it would be cheaper just to not buy them before I see them until they get cheaper. However where is the fun in that?
Moving right a long with this new batch of Blu-rays. I bring to you Anonymous. I honestly don’t remember this film hitting theaters. It wasn’t until I saw it on my list of upcoming Blu-rays did I know anything of the film Anonymous. Of course that instantly made me curious therefore to Youtube I went. Upon seeing the trailer I was generally interested in the matter.
A film about Shakespeare possibly being a fraud come on now. That sounds interesting. I’ve always heard stuff like this. Such as some of the greatest writers are actually frauds and thieves. That sounds fun and of course if they threw in some more conflict and possibly action it should be even better.
Anonymous is being released as a single Blu-ray disc. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of it.
Second on the list this week is the Disney classic Lady & the Tramp. Of course this version of the classic is going to have an amazing video and audio transfer. It is Disney for fucks sake and they sure know how to treat their classics. I have no doubt in my mind about that. If you don’t know the story of this film let me indulge you. A pampered dog named “Lady” runs away from her controlling owner and meets a dog from the alley. That dogs name is “Tramp”. Tramp rescues Lady from some mean dogs out on the streets which causes Lady to fall for Tramp.
Disney is treating the classic release of Lady & the Tramp the same way as they do with all of their re-releases. It is getting a few different packages. The first package is their gold diamond edition, which is a three disc set (Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy). Then there is the blue diamond edition. That is a Blu-ray and DVD package. Last but not least is the silver diamond edition. This one contains the same as the blue package except it comes in a DVD case and not a Blu-ray case. Seeing as I’m kind of a Disney junkie this will be a day one buy even though I don’t necessarily like the film.
Another film being released this week on Blu-ray is A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. I personally haven’t seen this film but I had heard it was funny. The trailers looked hilarious but I’m afraid of it being like most comedies. That all the funny parts are in the trailer and the rest of the film is terrible.
In this installment of Harold and Kumar, six years has passed since they have last seen each other. However it is Christmas Eve and Kumar arrives on Harold’s doorstep bringing a package that was originally delivered to Harold’s old apartment. The contents of that package inadvertently burns down Harold’s father-in-law’s Christmas tree. This sets things in motion for an excellent adventure of them roaming through New York City on Christmas Eve to find a new tree. Of course what kind of Harold and Kumar film would this be if they didn’t find trouble the entire journey.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas is coming out in three different packages. It is getting the lonely single Blu-ray disc release as well as the common Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. If this film didn’t get a 3D package things would be really weird considering it hit theaters in 3D. Well you can check out Wilson’s theatrical review here.
Last for the week is the ever terrible part 2 of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. When I say terrible I really mean horrible, horrendous and shitty. Personally I have not seen any of the Twilight movies. I have no desire to see them either. I know saying all that about a movie I haven’t seen is not smart but I don’t give a shit. Those movies look absolutely terrible therefore I say what I want about them.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is being released in god knows how many different packages. It seems like every retailer has their form of an exclusive package. I’m not even going to go into the different kinds of exclusives. However it seems like there will be a single Blu-ray disc as well as a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. You can check out TDR’s review of this horrible film right here. I’m not quite sure how Wilson sat through it without going insane.
Well that’s this weeks batch of new Blu-ray releases. We have a few good or semi good films and we also have our share of shitty teen films.
