Today THR is reporting that New Line has decided to reboot the Vacation movies that were originally started by National Lampoon. They have started director negotiations with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the team behind the script for Horrible Bosses and its upcoming sequel, as well as the Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell movie The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which is currently in production.
The duo originally pitched the project in 2009, a proposed reboot/sequel of the franchise, which THR reports has the following plot:
“A now grown-up Rusty Griswold, the son of the Chevy Chase character in the original series, experiences a misadventure with his own family.”
The character has been portrayed by actors like Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry in the past, so it will be interesting to see who they get to play the role of Rusty, and if Chevy Chase will make an appearance. Other plot descriptions mention Clark playing a minor role in the film, so we’ll see.
Director David Dobkins was originally attached to produce and direct, but has since left for greener pastures like Arthur & Lancelot, a project that was a go until budget restrictions have held it up while it gets reworked. If they get the job, it would be the first directing gig for the team, although they have made a short together in the past, and I know John Francis Daley has been shooting shorts since his days as a child actor on Freaks and Geeks.
