I’ve been on the rocks with my expectations for Marc Webb‘s Spider-Man reboot/untold origins story The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Initially, like most, I shunned the idea away because I’m quite fond of Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. But that wasn’t going to stop Sony from rebooting the series, in hopes of getting fans interested again and in hopes of keeping the Spider-Man rights.
So naturally I started to look for some good. The casting is great this time around and the visuals look kind of cool, but it’s still the same old Spider-Man. That is until this latest trailer reveals just a little bit more about the actual story that may change the entire back story of Peter Parker!
*Possible spoilers below*
According to various sources (via Bad Ass Digest), Peter Parker might have possibility been genetically altered, which would mean he doesn’t discover the powers, but more so he triggers them. If true, this would open up a whole new world of storytelling and problems for Parker and I really like the idea.
Another thing that this trailer really has me sold on is the web-slinging. I’m really liking the choice to go practical with the effects, because it adds an exciting feeling, like watching him swing through the streets for the first time.
I’m still on the fence with the villain choice, but I think The Amazing Spider-Man is looking more and more like a good idea and not just a simple cash grab.
We’ll find out when the film hits on July 3rd, 2012.
