Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines was one of the most talked about films at TIFF this year. The Blue Valentine director re-teamed with star Ryan Gosling, while also adding Bradley Cooper, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Dane DeHaan and Ray Liotta.
The gritty family drama was once compared to The Godfather in structure and that is one ballsy statement to make. Most were thinking that the film would get released sometime by the end of this year, if only to contend for an Oscar or two, but now Focus Features is confirming (via Box Office Mojo) that the film will open up sometime in 2013.
I’m fine with waiting it out, because this year is already getting stacked with so many good-looking dramas. Hopefully Pines can find a nice and snug release slot sometime next year, after the wind of the Oscar season has blown over.
