The Loved Ones US Trailer

Back in 2009, an Australian horror film set the festival circuit ablaze and garnered a lot of strong critical praise.  Now, it’s 2012, and Paramount has backed the film for a US release.  That film is writer/director Sean Byrne‘s gory love letter to the high school prom, The Loved Ones.  The official synopsis is:

“Lola Stone asked Brent Mitchell to the prom, but Brent said no, and now he’s screwed. What happens when Lola doesn’t get what she wants? She enlists Daddy’s help to throw a prom of her own, where she is queen and Brent is king — whether he likes it or not. THE LOVED ONES is what happens when puppy love goes horribly, violently wrong. Brent should have said yes…”

The film stars Xavier Samuels as Brent, with Robin MacLeavy as Lola, and John Brumpton as Lola’s twisted father, in a sly but wicked performance.  Paramount Insurge will release the film later this year, and here’s the trailer they’ve cut together for the US release.  I got the chance to review a Region 2 DVD of the film a few years back, I’ll be posting it here to let everyone know what I thought of this gory opus.  In the meantime, check out the trailer:
