The Hunger Games Countdown: Top Five

**WARNING: This post contains plot spoilers. If you have not yet read the book and don’t want certain plot points to be revealed to you yet, then stop reading now!**

I have to admit, although I really love to read, there is something about seeing what I have been envisioning as I read on screen. There’s nothing better than being able to complete that mental image with feeling like everything finally makes sense. In the case of The Hunger Games, there are definitely some scenes that I can’t wait to finally be shown on screen. Sometimes my head just couldn’t wrap itself around the things that were happening; other times I felt like what was happening in the book would be just so much cooler on the big screen. As I looked back on the book, I thought about my favorite parts, and what would be fantastic on screen. So here are my top five moments to look forward to in The Hunger Games movie:

1. Katniss on Fire
The clothes that Cinna designs for Katniss all read as exquisite and amazing, but the fire dress that Katniss wears to her interview seems extraordinary in comparison. I know there have been images that have leaked so far, and frankly, it seems relatively unimpressive. Perhaps I will be more stunned by Katniss and Peeta’s chariot entrance garb, when their capes are lit with an artificial flame. In any case, the costuming throughout the movie will definitely be something to keep a watch for, with an interesting mix of Katniss’ outfits, the crazy capitol folk, and the always eclectic Effie Trinket.

2. Peeta’s Camouflage
I am interested to see if Peeta’s river camouflage is digitally created, or if it really reflects a hand-painted touch – or, if they show this part at all. My assumption is that they will be showing this, as Katniss stumbling across Peeta in this way is an important part of how the rest of the story plays out.

3. Rue’s Death
Rue’s death was a severe blow to the readers – and although we all expected that everyone would have to die at some point, Rue’s death certainly reminded us of the sheer horror of the games. I am intrigued to see how this is played out. Many times these scenes end up looking incredibly cheesy, but as this was probably one of the most heartfelt pieces of the book, I hope that is not the case. I am also curious to hear the song that Katniss sings to Rue as she says goodbye.

4. The Muttations
I am wholly prepared to figure out what the muttations from the end of the games look like. As I read this portion, the only thing that I could think of was the three-headed dog from Hercules. In any case, I am certain they will be digitally inserted into the movie, but ultimately I am looking for the likeness that is present in the muttations from the deceased tributes. If this can be pulled off without looking really stupid, I think this could be a really cool part of the movie.

5. Shooting the Pig
This was one of my favorite parts of the book – when Katniss appears before the Gamemakers and wholly captures their attention by shooting an arrow at the pig they are about to feast on. To me, this was the ultimate girl power moment – and I hope this comes across well on screen. The reaction of the Gamemakers should be a priceless moment.

There are far too many other moments I could relish on, but these are definitely at the top of my list for what I am excited to see from the movie. I am interested to hear from the other The Hunger Games fans to see what their favorite moments from the book are, and what they are excited to see in the movie.
