Today, Lionsgate announced their newest casting addition for the second installment of the highly popular The Hunger Games Trilogy. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has added character actor and theater veteran Jeffrey Wright to the ever-growing cast. Wright will be portraying Beetee, a male tribute from District Three, whose knowledge of electricity (thus, the nickname “Volts”) becomes highly important during the Quarter Quell.
Though not a particularly prominent role, the character of Beetee is sure to benefit from the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actor’s presence. It had previously been rumored that the highly acclaimed Monk actor Tony Shaloub was up for the role – in fact, it is still listed as “rumored” on the IMDb web page. Such is apparently not the case, and Wright is a well-deserving actor for the role.
Wright joins a slew of actors who have recently signed on to the film, including Sam Claflin as fan-favorite Finnick Odair, Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Toby Jones as Claudius Templesmith. These new faces are just a few of more to come, and join the already impressive cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Sutherland.
The film is not due in theaters until November 22, 2013, but is sure to continue to generate buzz for the foreseeable future.
