Simon West‘s The Expendables 2 isn’t even out in theaters yet (it opens on Friday), yet there is talk about the inevitable third film and which action stars they want to bring to the table.
Producer Avi Lerner spilled the beans to Total Film:
“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”
“And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”
Nic Cage is basically a given at this point, especially with his most recent career choices, starring in wacky films like Seeking Justice, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and of course Drive Angry. I think he’d add just the right amount of spice to such a heavy cast list of washed up B-stars.
Harrison Ford seems like an odd name to throw around. He hasn’t really been much of a badass in years, but I guess he’s still a big name. Same goes for Clint Eastwood. He had his day in the sun and now he’s resorted to directing shitty movies and starring in ones that end up being even shittier.
I think we should wait and see how The Expendables 2 turns out before building up our dream cast list, because for all we know it might turn out just as bad as the first film, which was more of a disaster than an action-packed throwback to the good old days.
The Expendables 2 opens on August 17th, 2012.
