James Wan‘s latest horror film The Conjuring opened this past weekend and it opened very well. It took in over $40 million dollars on a shoestring budget and chances are high that Wan and friends will be revisiting the well for yet another haunted house tale.
New Line President recently spoke with Variety and let out these words on the possibility of a sequel:
“This is as good a horror movie as we’ve ever made….We think it will have great playability. We have Lorraine’s permission and support, and we are working on developing another film.”
This honestly doesn’t surprise me one bit. I’m a fan of when Wan does original horror, but maybe the upcoming Insidious: Chapter 2 will change my mind? I doubt it, especially since I liked The Conjuring, but didn’t love it. (My review here)
Also, would Wan even be able to direct a sequel? He’s still got Fast & Furious 7 to work on for next year.
Chances are high that we see a sequel in a year or two, but Wan might be too busy or have moved onto other genres (depending on how Fast 7 does) to consider returning behind the lens.
Did you enjoy The Conjuring?
