Visionary director Terrence Malick continues his recent hot streak with Voyage of Time. At one point this film was considered a close cousin to Malick’s The Tree of Life, because Life showed off some very impressive space sequences that Malick wanted to further detail and eventually turn into an actual solo film.
That film is happening and it’s called Voyage of Time, which is being described as “aesthetically unique and scientifically accurate” and the film will follow “the first signs of life, bacteria, cellular pioneers, first love, consciousness, the ascent of humanity, life and death and the end of the universe.”
This all sounds very grand and epic. What better way to share it with the world then to present it on the largest screens possible? Malick’s editor Billy Weber said the film should be ready for release in 2014 and that it might be popping up on large-format IMAX screens.
This is amazing news and news that I simply cannot come down from.
Brad Pitt and Emma Thompson are the only confirmed cast members and their work is from what I understand mostly narration.
Also, Weber said Malick is still hard at work on a director’s cut of The Tree of Life. At one point Malick mentioned a six hour cut. No idea if any of this will ever surface, but it’s always good to know that he hasn’t completely forgotten about it.
