As of yesterday 80s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is officially back in Hollywood with the release of Kim Jee-Woon‘s The Last Stand. I enjoyed the flick for what it was, mostly commenting on how great it was to see Arnie back in the spotlight. I suggest you give the film a viewing.
With that comes the continued discussion of Terminator 5. At one point Fast Five director Justin Lin was going to direct, with Schwarzenegger returning, but that sort of folded in on itself.
Megan Ellison (of Annapurna Pictures) still has plans for the film. The latest scoop is that Drive Angry writer Patrick Lussier and Shutter Island writer Laeta Kalogridis have been brought on to tag-team the script.
This is good news mostly because it means they’re still moving ahead on a new Terminator film. I actually enjoyed Drive Angry and I think Lussier’s hiring can hopefully lead to a fun and R-rated film, while Kalogridis can lock-down the deeper subtext of the film, which would help align this one closer with James Cameron‘s The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
I’ll never shoot down the idea of making more Terminator films, even if they end up being PG-13 trash. I’ll always have a soft spot in me for more Skynet and T-Model 101’s!
