In 2009 Focus Features and the Laika animation group teamed up to bring us Coraline, a dark little stop-motion animation film that was labeled a children’s film, but very much an adult film. I missed it in theaters and didn’t catch it until Blu-ray, which is where I fell in love with it. Coraline is such a sweet movie that also manages to be kind of creepy. Everything about the film was very entertaining. My love for Coraline naturally made this next announcement all the better.
Focus and Laika are re-teaming for a zombie comedy stop-motion film titled ParaNorman. It has the same creepy details that were present in Coraline and it’s full of some great actors providing some voice work. Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann and John Goodman will all be featured in the film, with Sam Fell and Chris Butler directing.
Right now the only big animated movie that everyone is getting all giddy for next year is Brave, but it looks like it will have some competition. I for one could care less about Brave, but ParaNorman looks like something I’d really enjoy. Too bad it doesn’t come out until August 17th, 2012.

When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
