Stephen Lang Returning For All Three ‘Avatar’ Sequels

Following the false reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to reunite with director James Cameron in a villainous role in Avatar 2, the first of three sequels to the 2009 box office smash, it appears that Pandora will face a familiar villain. According to Deadline, actor Stephen Lang will reprise his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch in the Avatar sequels. Yes, you read that correctly. Lang will appear in all three films. James Cameron revealed the news himself as he said, “Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back.”

It’s unclear as to how Lang will be back exactly. Those who saw the first film can tell you that Colonel Quaritch didn’t make it to the end. “I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all,” Cameron said. “His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.” It’s interesting to note that Cameron mentioned that Quaritch will “evolve into really unexpected places.” What are these unexpected places? Perhaps Lang‘s role in the sequels won’t be human.

Avatar 2 will be released in theaters in December of 2016. Avatar 3 and 4 will be released in December of 2017 and 2018. What are your thoughts? Check back for more updates as they come our way.
