The IMAX platform is a great one to have in your corner, especially when promoting something as big as J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek Into Darkness. The sequel to his 2009 hit will be in 3D and at IMAX locations when it releases on May 17th, 2013.
We all know Abrams is kind of a secretive little devil, which means fans are going to have a field day when they read my next paragraph.
Audiences will be able to experience the first 9 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness at select IMAX theaters on December 14th, 2012. For those of you keeping track at home that means the exclusive footage will be attached to Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
This is massive news for the geek world, because The Hobbit is the last big event of the year and Abrams’ Star Trek film marks a big milestone for next year, plus we can probably expect new trailers for Pacific Rim and Man of Steel to be attached to The Hobbit.
We’re not 100% sure what the exclusive 9 minutes will be, but we can confirm that it is the opening 9 minutes, which means we should prepare for lots of action and 3D intensity as our favorite crew members trek into darkness!
