If this week is going to be remembered at all it’s going to be for the massive amount of standalone Star Wars film news. First it was simply confirmed that Disney would be moving ahead with their plan to make Star Wars films that would exist outside the main series (and it’s coming sequels), but now confirmation has been trickling in as to which characters would be getting their own adventures.
One brought up was Yoda, which just flat-out sucks. We don’t need more Yoda. One thing the prequel trilogy proved was that Yoda jumping around with a lightsaber is totally not bad ass and that an old and wise Yoda that remains content until needed is much more effective.
There’s also news spreading quickly across the web featuring a young Han Solo film and maybe even a Boba Fett adventure. These two characters don’t need anymore exposure, especially Han Solo. No one is going to be able to top Harrison Ford‘s role, so why even bother at this point?
And Boba Fett getting anything more than what was shown in the prequels is just simply backpedaling. Why do the people over at Disney think that we want more of the same? The original Star Wars trilogy was so good that it didn’t require any sort of back story, yet George Lucas had to go and slightly mess things up with the horrible prequels.
Now Disney wants to remind us of how horrible those prequels were by releasing films that tie into them?
We’ve already got our Star Wars fill. Now let’s move on and cover something that hasn’t already been covered on the big screen. Take us to the future and give us new stories, with familiar characters. Don’t give us old stories with familiar characters.
