There has been a lot of talk about The Expendables 2, and not just because the first one was so popular, but because of the fact that the producers seem to be going balls out for the sequel, including the casting of Chuck Norris. However, many were extremely bothered when it was said The Expendables 2 would be edited down to a PG-13 rating because those were the terms of Norris’ contract. A lot of fans cried out, and I found it a bit suspicious myself, especially considering that some of Norris’ best-known films are R-rated. I mean, what would Silent Rage or Invasion U.S.A. be without their R-rating? Pretty silly films, I guarantee that.
Now, Sylvester Stallone seems to be confirming that the film will indeed be R-rated, but wasn’t he the one quoted as originally saying it was part of Norris’ deal? Here’s what StalloneZone posted:
“After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.”
And they attribute the quote directly to Stallone. I don’t know the legitimacy of the site, and this proves we didn’t know the legitimacy of whomever quoted Stallone saying it would be PG-13 to begin with, so take this with a grain of salt until we see a trailer with a rating on it. I think this is the truth, and while I have no clue if SZ have a direct line to Stallone or not, but this seems like the likely outcome. Some fans were even planning boycotts, and while I doubt the overall impact on business that would have caused, I don’t doubt that the producers had this planned all along, as any sequel to the decidedly violent The Expendables had to at least feature a lot of violence, even if they opted for less gore. I get the feeling they didn’t though, and that this movie will be intended for adult audiences, as it probably always was. We’ll see in August. What do you think?
