We’ve been keeping you updated on the latest film from Harmony Korine starring James Franco, and Spring Breakers finally has a release date after we’ve taken a peek at the poster and first stills as well as some clips from the film. Now we know that Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures will be releasing the film March 5th, 2013, with heavy promotion during the time when most schools are on spring break.
It seems that most risky projects that can’t find a home anywhere else end up under the guidance of Ellison, and for films like The Master, it has turned out to be a blessing. There was a time when P.T. Anderson couldn’t find funding for his Oscar-buzzing film, so Ellison has proven that she knows what to do with projects that studios are often afraid of.
Harmony Korine has had a history of making films that studios are terrified of, and after seeing some bits from the film, I’m not surprised as to why. James Franco plays a completely left-field version of a white gangster, and teen idols Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens have obviously stepped out of their comfort zones for this one. As the release date gets closer, I’m sure we’ll see more trailers, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated. What do you think? Is this something you’ll be interested in seeing?
