Sony is getting really invested in their new Amazing Spider-Man series. We already know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming to screens in May, with THREE villains! Most would see that as a giant red flag (Spider-Man 3 much?), while others are enthusiastically approaching the notion with a fresh set of eyes, much like The Amazing Spider-Man.
I dug The Amazing Spider-Man and think that the sequel looks like a step in the right direction, but I’m still worried about the villain overload. But it’s all coming together now, with Sony announcing a Venom standalone film and a Sinister Six film. Both should be coming after The Amazing Spider-Man 3, so sometime in 2016 or 2017.
Word is that Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci will be writing Venom, with Kurtzman directing, while Drew Goddard is penning Sinister Six, with no director attached.
Hopefully Sony learns from Marvel and takes their time establishing these characters and expanding the universe in a natural way and not by shoving these characters (and their films) down our throats.
