Last year Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opened an entire week early exclusively on IMAX screens across the country. This year Sam Mendes‘ 007 film Skyfall is looking to capitalize on the market by releasing the film a whole day early, before its nationwide release on November 9th, 2012.
I’m not sure what they hope to gain by only moving it up one day, especially because on top of M:I – GP‘s week head start it also had a ton of sneak previews running at 10pm the night before.
Skyfall is big enough for a week early, but maybe they’re simply doing this as a marketing ploy and a way to spread more general buzz about the film and not necessarily its IMAX release.
I’m just excited to see Daniel Craig reprise his role as the best secret agent in the world!
