2012 gave us one of the most creepy horror films in recent memory, Sinister. Director Scott Derrickson co-wrote the film with former film critic and now author C. Robert Cargill and together they delivered a chilling film that was loaded with atmosphere and a slow-burn reveal that I rather enjoyed.
The Blumhouse Productions film earned an impressive $77 million worldwide, thanks to the marketing and of course star Ethan Hawke. It is now confirmed for a sequel.
Cargill and Derrickson are currently working on a Deus Ex: Human Revolution adaptation for CBS Films, but it has been mentioned that they will return to write the script for the sequel, while Derrickson hasn’t confirmed if he will return as director or not.
I’m not sure where Sinister 2 could really go, given the ending of the first film, but I’d love to see if they can come up with another original and fresh horror story.
No release date has been given, but I wouldn’t rule out a 2014 release date just yet.
More news to come as we get it.
