Shailene Woodley To Star In Terminal Illness Romance ‘The Fault In Our Stars’

It was only last month when The Descendants star Shailene Woodley and True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld were in contention for the lead role in the upcoming adaptation The Fault In Our Stars. Deadline has now reported that Shailene Woodley is now in final negotiations to star in the film, adding yet another project to her busy schedule.

Based on author John Green’s best-selling romance novel, The Fault in Our Stars follows Gus and Hazel (Woodley), two teens stricken with terminal cancer who fall in love. Josh Boone, director of the soon-to-be-released drama Stuck in Love (formerly titled Writers), is directing the film based on a screenplay by (500) Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

Shailene Woodley is an immensely talented young actress who seems to be making smart choices in her career so far. Not only did she receive critical acclaim for her performance in Alexander Payne’s Oscar-winning film The Descendants, but she has also been receiving a lot of buzz as of late for the Sundance drama The Spectacular Now which is due in theaters this summer. Besides The Spectacular Now, Woodley next appears in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Mary Jane and the adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent.

It’s uncertain at this point as to when production for The Fault In Our Stars will begin. The novel is promising material. I’m sure it’ll be a film that will tug at the heartstrings.
