In his follow-up to the 2012 comedy Ted, writer/director/star Seth MacFarlane is heading to the Wild West for the comedy A Million Ways To Die In The West. In an official press release, Universal Pictures has set a prime release date of May 30th, 2014 for the film. The release date hints that Universal certainly has high hopes.

After a cowardly sheep farmer (MacFarlane) backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) leaves him for another man.  When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Charlize Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love.  But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test. The comedy will also star Liam Neeson, Sarah Silverman, Giovanni Ribisi, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Seth MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Wellesley Wild and Alec Sulkin. McFarlane is reuniting with Ted producers Scott Stuber and Jason Clark for the project. I thought Ted was surprisingly funny. I’m looking forward to discovering if MacFarlane progresses as a comedic film director.
