While never known for doing sequels, Tim Burton‘s career has always had an unmistakable unpredictability surrounding it. He’s floated between genres, always staying true to his own style of filmmaking, whether it’s a good or bad thing. Bloody-Disgusting sat down with the writer to get a few words on upcoming projects (he wrote the screenplay for the currently in theaters Dark Shadows) and the discussion came to Beetlejuice 2, which the writer is working on.
He says that right now it’s all on his shoulders, as he has met with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton about the screenplay, it’s just a matter of him getting one going that everyone is excited about. He says Warner Brothers is eager to get the film going, which is no surprise as Beetlejuice is one of their bigger hits from the late 80’s.
When asked about certain characters returning, this is what he had to say:
“It’s all possible. In terms of the story, however many years that are between the two films will be the amount of years that are between the two story lines. It’s not a reboot or a remake, it’s a straight sequel with Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice.”
So there you have it, they’re leaving every possibility open, and it will be a straight up, 14 years later sequel. Count me in.
