Actor Mathieu Demy makes his feature debut with Americano starring himself and Salma Hayek. The French actor-turned-director has made a few short films, but his this will be his first feature behind and in front of the camera at the same time. The plot is listed as:
“A man who returns to Los Angeles to wrap up his mother’s estate sets out in search of the mysterious woman named in her will.”
Salma Hayek stars as Lola, the mysterious woman, and based on the trailer, it looks to be a dark dramatic film that is a semi-autobiographical account of a man losing his mother. Hayek has shown acting chops before, but in this case it looks like the film is mostly about the man and his mysteries rather than the acting. Reviews coming out of festival screenings of the film have been middling at best, but the film is out now in New York and possibly a few other major cities. The film also stars Geraldine Chaplin and Carlos Bardem in supporting roles.
