The last time we had a Saw film it was titled The Final Chapter. But this is the world of Hollywood filmmaking, especially horror filmmaking, which means that it’s never truly over.
Lionsgate announced Saw: Legacy awhile back, with production already finishing and marketing ramping up.
Now, Saw: Legacy is simply Jigsaw and it will open in theaters this October.
I for one am excited. I am a Saw fan, warts and all and the idea of getting excited for another Saw film this Halloween season has me all giddy inside. The Paranormal Activity films just didn’t do it for me, nor did The Purge series.
Saw returning as an annual event is a good thing.
Also, The Spierig Brothers are directing, which should ease the naysayers — these guys did Daybreakers and Predestination!
What do you think of the new title?
Here’s a plot synopsis for those uninformed:
Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?
