I’m a sucker for these types of situational films. I thought Phone Booth, with Colin Farrell was suspenseful for what it was and I really liked Bruce Willis in Hostage. For some reason I just really enjoy films that take place in one location for the majority of the time. Sam Worthington is giving it a go in Man on a Ledge, which is about a man on a ledge trying to prove his innocence. One thing the trailer does wrong is give away another plot point. I think it would have been better to discover why Worthington’s character is doing what he’s doing without having to see it in the trailer. Still, the film looks pretty sharp.
I think this will be a great opportunity for Worthington to display some of his real acting talent. He’s kind of just slid on by in Hollywood with roles in Avatar and Clash of the Titans, but recently he showed some of his skills in The Debt. If he spends the bulk of the film in one spot then he better be damn interesting.
Man on a Ledge also stars Jamie Bell, Elizabeth Banks, Anthony Mackie and Ed Harris. It opens in theaters on January 13th, 2012.
Check out the trailer and poster below, thanks to The Film Stage.
An ex-cop and now wanted fugitive (Sam Worthington) stands on the ledge of a high-rise building while a hard-living New York Police Department negotiator (Elizabeth Banks) tries to talk him down. The longer they are on the ledge, the more she realizes that he might have an ulterior objective.
