Ryan Gosling is expanding his sphere of influence with the upcoming project How to Catch a Monster, a film he will write and direct. The film will star Christina Hendricks (his Drive co-star), who also stars in Mad Men on AMC.
The plot: (via BAD)
“Written and directed by Ryan Gosling, HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”
I wasn’t aware that Gosling even had the desire to direct, but I suppose he’s smart enough to know that expanding your skill set is never a bad thing. And with people like Ben Affleck successfully making the transition, I suppose it’s ultimately not that surprising. The plot description is nothing that jumps out at me, but since he always seems to make good acting choices, I’m curious to see how this movie turns out either way.
The film is slated for a 2014 release, but depending on his schedule, that may be subject to change. As soon as we learn more about the film, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
