Whether you like it or not, a remake of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 horror classic Poltergeist is officially on its way. Deadline has reported that Your Sister’s Sister and Promised Land actress Rosemarie DeWitt is the choice to play the female lead in MGM and Fox 2000’s remake from Monster House director Gil Kenan. Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the script.
The original film centered on a family plagued by evil demonic spirits who kidnap their youngest daughter. The remake has been in development for several years but was put on hold due to financial troubles at MGM. Last month, it has been confirmed that the film is now back on with Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead and Oz The Great and Powerful) producing. Rosemarie DeWitt reunites with her Your Sister’s Sister director Lynn Shelton for Touchy Feely, due in theaters on September 6th.
Poltergeist is set to arrive in theaters in 2014.
