Red State really interests me. I will admit that I am a Kevin Smith fan. I’m not that guy that claims Clerks to be the best independent film of all time because I honestly don’t think it’s anything special. I actually prefer Clerks II to the original Clerks, but I like a lot of Kevin Smith‘s other films. Zack and Miri Make a Porno was hilarious, Cop Out was decent, Dogma kind of sucked and Chasing Amy is by far his best work. So there, I figured it would be best if I cleared up what kind of Kevin Smith fan I am. Too often these days to people instantly shun Kevin Smith or any of his fans out. I get that he is kind of a douchebag and thus spawning more douchebag’s, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who doesn’t hate him belongs in that category.
Yes, he is highly overrated as a director, but he’s far from the worst. He only gets all of this hate because he claims himself to be more then he really is.
Back on the topic at hand here Kevin Smith‘s latest film, Red State has been traveling around the country, doing a roadshow presentation. Smith charged his audience a small fee to view the film early, okay I’m joking, he charged like $60 fucking dollars per ticket. What a scam! Anyways, now that he has raised enough money he is planning on releasing it sometime in October.
This latest red band trailer really reveals a lot more and I’m actually kind of mad that I viewed it. Before this, I only knew that this was Kevin Smith making some sort of religious horror film. That was it, but this latest trailer reveals more of the actual story and tone of the film. It looks really weird and unlike anything Kevin Smith has done before. Count me in!
Red State will be released on VOD September 1st, 2011 and in theaters on October 19th, 2011.
