Director Steve McQueen and actor Michael Fassbender have been stirring up some controversy lately with their NC-17 rated Shame, which follows Brandon (Fassbender); a sex addicted New Yorker who is disrupted when his sister (Carey Mulligan) shows up unexpectedly.
This will be McQueen and Fassbender’s second film together, the first being Hunger. While I wasn’t a fan of Hunger I still can’t wait to check out Shame. It looks skillfully crafted with a very bold story. I’ve jumped on the Fassbender bandwagon like everyone else and I think this might be the one that could get him some well-deserved Oscar praise. Shame will no doubt not be for everyone, but I think that people looking for a powerful story filmed by a very talented director will be impressed. His methods are often silent and dreadful, but he always gets the message across loud and clear.
Shame opens up in limited release this Friday on December 2nd, 2011.
