The [REC] series is one of my favorites in recent memory, both for horror films and films in general. I really enjoyed how the first and second films tied together and I’ve been dying to find out anything about what’s next for the series, but news about the third and fourth films has been kept under wraps. The only thing we do know right now is that the co-directors of the first two films have split up and taken one film each to direct. Paco Plaza is in charge of [REC] 3: Genesis and Jaume Balaguero is directing [REC] 4: Apocalypse.
The third film is a change of pace, taking place miles away from the original location from the first two films and sort of acting like a prequel, while tying up some loose ends that one may have missed in the first two films. The teaser trailer below is just great. It doesn’t give away much of anything, but it establishes the tone very well. I can tell that the third installment of the [REC] series is going to be a good one and I can’t wait to check it out!
[REC] 3: Genesis is scheduled to open up in Spain on March 30th, 2012. There is no U.S. release date at this time.
Check out the teaser trailer below, thanks to The Film Stage.
The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future ‘[REC] 4 Apocalypse.’
