Gerard Butler has been on a bit of slump lately, recently starring in the incredibly underwhelming The Machine Gun Preacher and that awful awful romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston titled The Bounty Hunter. There’s just something about Butler’s career that depresses me and his upcoming projects aren’t doing much to change my mind. He’s got Chasing Mavericks in October and now Playing for Keeps in December.
Playing for Keeps looks a lot more watchable than Mavericks, but only because the rest of the cast fits into their roles a lot more than Butler. Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid help anchor down Butler’s overly positive-looking performance in this first trailer.
I’m not one for sports dramas, especially ones involving soccer, but I’ll probably catch Playing for Keeps, because director Gabriele Muccino won me over with The Pursuit of Happyness.

Playing for Keeps opens on December 7th, 2012.
