Woah, wait a second — is this actually happening?
Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been personally responsible for making properties that absolutely had no reason being films somehow awesome.
I’m talking about 21 & 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie — both were properties that people sighed at when they heard that they were being adapted into films and then somehow both ended up being hilarious and amazing.
They also helped bring The Last Man on Earth to television, which is a rock solid show if you’re looking for something a little different, but equally funny.
Last I heard the two were circling The Flash for WB, but now we have confirmation that they’ve joined the Star Wars universe by snagging directing duties on an upcoming Han Solo spin-off film.
News aside from their direction is limited, but we do know that Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon will be scripting the film.
Here’s what Lord and Miller have to say about landing such a project:
“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”
I for one didn’t really think we needed a Han Solo film, but if Lord & Miller are behind it then I’m completely on board.
