Paul Giamatti is a really talented actor. One that I thought I’d never see play a villain in a comic book movie. I’m not sure exactly why, but I just never thought Giamatti would go for it.
Now it looks like he’ll be more than going for it, playing the character of Rhino in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also stars Dane DeHann as Harry Osborn, Shailene Woodley as M.J. and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their roles from the original film, which hit theaters this past summer.
The addition of Giamatti makes me both excited and worried. I’m excited to see an actor of his caliber step into this film, but I’m starting to get too-many-villains fatigue. Remember Spider-Man 3?
Hopefully Marc Webb can actually control his movie this time around, without letting Sony step in and cut too many things out. The Amazing Spider-Man was good in my eyes, but it wasn’t the untold story that they advertised in the trailers.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 2nd, 2014.
